Gen Eds are really a waste of my time. To graduate and earn a degree i have to take a global diversity class. I thought requirement was satisfied by my "Comparison of US and Japanese Economies" class. Unfortunately it wasn't... I am now an unfortunate student of Middle East history. Don't get me wrong... the topic sounds interesting and it is really important to understand that part of the world. However, text books written by men who don't understand that their audience consist of freshmen... or seniors who don't really care... can be a bit dull.
As a senior i am quite busy. I am in that whole job searching phase of life. Searching for a job, actually becomes ones. You write cover letters, attend interviews, write thank you notes, start the process all over again. Then there are the finance classes i take. Case studies, exams. Oh and that honors thesis... So in the grand scheme of things... the 50 pages i am expected to read for my gen ed class... do not quite measure up. Yet these gen ed professors expect you to believe that their class is the most important thing in the world. Last Thursday i had to miss class to attend an interview. I e-mailed my professor ahead of time to let her know and to ask if there was a way i could make up the quiz. She said "No, you cannot make up quizzes. But good luck on the interview!" Uhhh... So what does that mean....? Does my grade suffer? Cuz uh lady... you can't ask upper managers to postpone your interview so you can take a general education quiz... "Oh yes Daniellle! Let me give you your own special day to come in so you can make that Middle East history class! I'll postpone all my meetings and projects just for you." No. This is real life, gen ed lady.
